I ruck every week 6 to 12 mile. These are the best boots I have every used. They breath great and there comfort is unmatched. So walking around on a regular work day is even better.
Nice update on an old thing.
I have always been a long time supporter of Wellco. My father's been using them since the 60s and I've recently picked them up. Let me be the first to say, the Gen I's are fantastic boots. I recently took the Gen I to a 4 month long research expedition to the Amazon and were impressed with them. When I found out they recently came out with the Gen II's, I really wanted to see what they did with them. The most noticeable thing is that they are lighter. I haven't weighed them, but I would say a half-pound give or take.
They look more tacticool which is something to consider, but they are sharp looking boots. The leather is better than my Gen I's, they scuff less and have more of a sheen to them. The vents are now one big screen which serves to increase airflow. The quality/weight of the nylon seems to be about the same, but the thick cross band is now three different ones for more support. They also placed neoprene on areas like the lip and the top of the boot. The biggest thing is that the boot is more comfortable. It wears more like a running shoe than a boot. I find it more comfortable for daily use and running than Gen I.
Now for the cons...well con which is why I gave it a 4.5. I am not sure about how well the sole will stay on the boot. I believe that military boots are more securely attached. Now, I have had these boots for 5 months now and use them frequently and they are holding up quite well. Who knows, it is just speculation on my part.
