Great boots, but not as long lasting as they could be.

I have worn these boots exclusively on a daily basis for several years now, and have gone through several pairs. They are comfortable, sturdy, and take abuse well. However, there are a few odd features in the design, and EVERY PAIR I'VE OWNED HAVE FAILED THE SAME WAY. There is a covering that caps the toe area and along the front of the sides. The covering is a plastic, and not leather. After about a year of daily wear, the rest of the boot is still perfectly fine, but this plastic starts to crack and separate, and it goes downhill very quickly from there. I don't understand why this isn't made from leather, because the boots would probably last 2-3x longer. This plastic material is also easily punctured by cactus needles or thorns, because it extends toward the instep, and once it gets a puncture the holes spread quickly, destroying the boot. I've also had two pair where the sole's glue failed, and the sole separated from the boot, starting where the toe creases when you walk. One one pair this occurred after just a month of wear, on the other it occurred several months in. Overall, they are great boots and I continue to purchase and wear them. The manufacturer (5.11) has very good customer service, and even replaced two of the pairs free of charge.

140 miles

I bought these boots to use for a BSA High Adventure Backpacking Trek in the Santa Cristo Mountains of New Mexico within the Philmont BSA Ranch. Last year I logged 83 miles on a two week backpacking trek and this year I logged about 65 miles. The boots have held up extremely well!! and in some cases outperformed other name brand hiking boots from Cabelas. The side zipper makes it easy to get in and out of in low light conditions while going to and from your tent. The bottom soles are extremely tough and wore very well in rugged terrain. The insoles are very comfortable and with the right socks prevented any blisters. An absolutely Great Boot!!!

Good boot for the money

These are good boots for the price. Light in weight with good footbed support and a protected toe. The ankle cuff is nicely padded. The small vents seem to work because my feet never get hot. Once you get these boots broken in, which takes no time at all, you can knot those laces and forget about them thanks to the zipper. The zipper pull tab is metal and makes just a little bit of noise when you walk, something that could compromise stealth. I'm a size 11 / D width and these boots fit perfectly.

Great Boot for Tactical or Casual Wear

I've had these boots for a couple of months now and have found them light, comfortable, and provide decent traction. Running and walking are quite effortless because of the light weight. Since these are not full-size boots, some users may find the boots rub against the front of their legs above the ankles if you tie the laces tight. To alleviate this, just lace them loosely.
