Its Simply PERFECT!

I've owned many knives in the past and all have been great. In my personal opinion and experience the Cold Steel Recon 1 Knife is a Simple Solid Razor Sharp Rugged Reliable made Weapon/Tool/Work of Art. The Ergonomics of the handle fits my hand like a glove and is textured just enough to have a solid grip in any environment without tearing your skin off. The Blade is deadly sharp right out the box and the tip of the Tanto point is diamond hard and able to pierce almost anything. I would Highly recommend this knife to anyone looking for that to go to knife when SHTF or EDC or just because its simply to own a high quality knife they can depend in any circumstance.

Excellent Practical Design
Rating: 5.0 Stars
I own the Recon 1 in serrated tanto blade, as well as the AK-47 knife by Cold Steel. Of the two I prefer the Recon 1 because of its slimmer design which handles with more ease and quickness. The grip is excellent and the design does everything a folding knife needs to do. The AK-47 handles more like brass knuckles. Kind of like a knife you fit to your hand in order to fight. The Recon 1 seems to one hand open with more ease and a touch quicker too. The knife handles for practical work more casually than the AK-47. Excellent all around working knife and excellent for combat use too.

Not old but NEW!

I own this model and have for about three years. It works wonders and is a very good tac. folder. But as with anything, nothing is perfect. Cold Steel relized this about a year and a half ago and created a improved version of this knife. That is why i am very surprised to see this model up for sale, still. The newer version is still named Recon 1. But Cold Steel replaced the Zytel handles with ones of checkered G-10, and the 440 A blade with one of AUS 8. Wheather you purchase a newer model or the one presented here they are both wonderful knives, i have used mine for just about every task a knife is not designed for but is called to do in combat. Pry bar, chisel, hammer, pick, punch, and of course standard cutting. It out preforms some of my more ...delicate folders. Which is why i LOVE it!

Great...for a while...

I love this knife, dont get me wrong. The handle is awesome... its super grippy, and never feels like it is going to fly or slip out of my hand with or without gloves. It is sort of big, but once clipped into your front pocket, unoticable. Its also one of those -Dont F*@K with me- knives you could pull out during a confrontation and people would leave you alone. Heres the rub... after owning the knife for about 3 months, the spring mechanism that controls the locking of the blade has completely busted. My knife no longer locks -closed-, but now free swings everywhere. It still locks -open-, and it is a testament to how much this knife rules that I still carry it around with me, but as it doesnt lock closed anymore it will eventually have to be replaced and I am hesitant to buy a new one. Maybe I just recieved a defective one, maybe not, but I thought anyone considering this knife should know this ahead of time.

Absolutly Amazing!

This knife is my everyday use knife. I personally own quite a few tactical folders but none stack up to this one. I am a fan of Cold Steels knives and own four. I have the tanto point straight edge Recon 1. This knife is almost indestructible. I have used it for all manner of tasks from cutting open an surplus ammo can normally a pain in the but. To shaving when I lost my razor on a vacation. Take caution this knife comes EXTREMELY sharp out of the box. It takes a long time to dull. When it does you will need a high quality stone to sharpen it since the steel is of a high quality. I recommend a double or even a triple grit diamond sharpening stone. This knife will take a beating, and is as tough as a fixed blade knife when locked open. (You cant even budge the blade a milimeter when its locked open) For the price, this is probably one of the best buys out there. It deploys very quickly due to a teflon coating on all parts, and it has a unique grip that is effective even wet. The only gripe I have is that the pocket clip is not positioned close enough to the end of the handle for my liking. Granted this is not a big deal, more of personality thing. All in all, this is an excellant choice for CQD or general use. Mike

Best Knife for Your Money

The Cold Steel Recon is the best knife that you can buy. This knife is not only economical it has stood up to harsh use with absolutely no signs of wear. After almost a year of hard use at work it still locks up like a bank vault! It locks up tighter than my custom Strider and cost me less than 1/10th the price. I've made this my everyday work knife because it holds up so well. Careful because it comes EXTREMELY SHARP!!!
